How does a student qualify for the Pre-K Program
I have the live state-requirements page and Pre-K FAQ details from earlier this session, all confirmed. Building the answer from those verified sources.
How does a student qualify for the Pre-K Program?
Qualifying for Uplift Pre-K involves two parts: age and state eligibility.
Age. A child must be 3½ years old on or before September 1 of the upcoming school year to apply. Uplift Education
State eligibility. Uplift Pre-K is a free, state-funded program with no paid option, so students offered a spot must also meet state eligibility requirements to attend.
A child qualifies by meeting at least one of the following:
-
Living in a low-income qualified household (verified through SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF eligibility, or recent paycheck stubs)
-
Experiencing homelessness
-
Being the child of an active-duty, deceased, or injured U.S. armed forces member
-
Living in state foster care
-
Having a parent or guardian eligible for the Star of Texas Award
-
Having limited English proficiency
-
Being the child of a full-time Uplift classroom teacher.
How it works. Submit your application by the early-February lottery deadline. If your child is drawn in the lottery, Uplift will contact you for an eligibility meeting to confirm you qualify. Supporting documents can be uploaded during online registration or presented at that meeting.
